Audience: GP/ACRRM GP/RACGP GP/Other Registrar Med Student Nurse/RCNA Nurse/Other Other Medical Practitioner Pharmacist Other Health Professional
Description:

The management of chronic disease is becoming more important, as the population ages, and people live longer. The GP is well placed to manage chronic disease, as the coordinator of patient care. The GP is often the first point of contact for patients or families concerned about cognitive decline. Dementia has multiple causes, and treatment includes both drug and non-drug modalities. Carer/family support is important, as is the monitoring and treatment of other co-existing medical conditions. Long term conditions, such as psoriasis, present a therapeutic challenge, balancing the condition and the risks associated with long term therapy. Newer biological therapies may be the solution for some. Learning objectives: At the completion of this learning activity, the participant should be able to: Diagnose the various types of dementia, and be aware of both the drug and non- drug modalities available to treat dementia Differentiate dementia from other causes of cognitive decline and change in the activities of daily living Discuss the various treatment options for psoriasis, as well as their associated risks and limitations Consider the use of biological agents in psoriasis, bearing in mind the limited information at hand concerning their long term use Ensure best practice principals are used to ensure patient safety
